Returning home down the Hume Highway we stopped at Fowles Winery near Avenel. Recently re-opened after major renovations, it was much changed from the time we held a knitwear day there about 20 years ago in what was then Plunkett's Winery. It was most impressive, a great place to stop for a break and meal and the facilities for larger occasions are exceptional.
We enjoyed a delicious lunch before driving home.
On our travels we often take the road less travelled and today we found a gem. The Old Gundagai Road from Wallendbeen to Coolac is a delightful drive with sweeping corners and picturesque views as we wound down a fertile valley with neat, attractive properties set against hilly backdrops. Well worth a diversion.
